IMPORTANT. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
All roofing works must now be done to Building Regulations Standards and Local Building Control Office must be notified before the works commence.

Your new roof must have lead cover flashings at abutments, the loft voids must be ventilated and the roof timbers should be strengthened in accordance with the instructions of the Boroughs Building Control Officer.

It is important that your new roof complies with these regulations because if it doesn't the Building Control Officer has the authority to apply for the roof to be done again to bring it up to standard.

If you are accepting our Estimates we will make the necessary Building Control Application on your behalf and submit the notices required.
Our estimate does include the fee charged by the Local Authority for the services of their building Control Officer.

YOUR GUIDELINE TO RE-ROOFING

IN YOUR OWN INTEREST WE RECOMMEND YOU READ THIS

When making a decision as to which company to use for re-roofing your property, we wish to draw your attention to a few points that will be of interest to you. These points have been gathered together over many years of experience and are compiled to safeguard the interests of householders and property owners seeing a genuine roofing company.

  1. Make sure that the estimate, which should always be obtained in writing, contains all the works that you require to satisfy yourself and the Local Council Building Control Officer.

  2. Ask the company supplying the estimate to provide you with a list of works they have carried out in the past and, before you decide to use them, check their standard of work by looking at it yourself.

  3. The company which undertakes the work on your roof must be fully insured and you are advised to check that they are before they commence work.

  4. The Health and Safety at Work Act must be complied with and it insists that a scaffolding be erected, to safeguard yourself and the general public, on all roofing work above 2.2 metres.

  5. Make sure that the estimate includes the removal of all waste materials, by builders skip or other means, as soon as can be reasonably expected after the works have been completed.

  6. On completion of the works and when making final payment, insist that the Guarantee (if any) is in writing and that any certificate issued by the Local Council Building Control Officer, is passed on to yourself for safe keeping.

  7. Remember that re-roofing is not a job to be done later if not dealt with by professionals in the first instance, DO IT ONCE AND DO IT RIGHT.

  8. Finally, beware of the companies that use the 'Foot in the Door' technique, whereby they give a low estimate and then increase the cost as the work progresses.
